Curious signs in the city – this one has me stumped

I am puzzled by a series of signs I found in Toronto. Go to Nathan Phillips Square (that’s city hall for those not familiar with Toronto) and wander around close to all the greenery. There are a couple of rather curious signs with no purpose. Well, unless you count confusing the populace. Here is a good instance: Here’s a closer look: Your eyes are not deceiving you, that’s a picture of a beaver. No explanation, just a beaver and the name. There are a couple of other ones down there showing different animals.

Is the sign trying to tell us to watch out for the beavers? Not a hope in hell of finding one in downtown Toronto.

Maybe its an ancient beaver crossing.

Or are they trying to tell us city folk what a beaver looks like, in the remote chance we stumble across one sipping a cappuccino at the local cafe.

“What is that rodent at the table?”
“Its okay Chris, its a beaver, I saw it on a sign down at city hall.”

Along the south side of NP Square is a porcupine – another rodent.
Perhaps its a secret society of rodents and this is where they meet.

We will meet at the sign of the beaver – Don’t be late Boris. Natasha will meet us at the sign of the porcupine for a midnight snack.

Maybe they wait until all the tourists go home and have a picnic in the park. It amuses me to think of a porcupine picnic down at City Hall.
