Charmin toilet paper – enough with the bears already

If you live outside of North America, I doubt you will be familiar with the ads for Charmin toilet paper and their bears in the woods campaign. It started here in Canada in 2000. Its an animated cartoon ad with bears using Charmin brand toilet paper. It plays on the old line “do bears do it in the woods?” It shows big bears, little bears, momma bears running off to a tree with a role of Charmin.

Initially it was cute. But after 7 years I feel the urge to go bear hunting. Enough already! Put the bears out to pasture and use something else. Every time I turn around, the damned bears are prancing off to the woods with their 3 sheets of Charmin. Must be all the berries they eat.

Yup … Right now they are claiming 3 sheets will do you. That’s cause it’s so thick. Have you measured out 3 sheets of TP? I don’t care if its the thickness of two 100 year old redwood trees, its still the same length. What am I supposed to do? Separate all the layers and stitch them together so I have an appropriate amount? And just because a bunch of furry butted bears use their toilet paper, doesn’t make it appealing to me. I’d like to flatter myself that my back end isn’t as wide or as hairy…. so the comparison is lost to me.

Please give us something else.

How about cute little fluffy bunnies? Or better yet, get Adam Savage from Myth Busters to reprise his role as the red headed stock boy in Mr. Whipples store. He could do an entire ad of myth busting – In this episode of Myth Busters, we explore the myth of whether bears really use Charmin Toilet Paper. Now that would be cool.

You guessed it – its a damp, rainy, cold day here in the city and catpaw is crabby. Migraine on low, temper on testy. Good thing I’m inside – it could be messy if I had to deal with the public at large.
