Good Year blimp in your neigbourhood now

When I went out the door this morning I was greeted by the sound of 100 cicadas on steroids. Guess what? It was the sound of a blimp motor! The Good Year blimp is wandering around my neighbourhood. Evidently its been floating around Toronto all week. Who knew?

I wonder if the blimp is lost?

Oh.. the Skydome? Take a left at the Chum Music Building and go south. Can’t miss it… its the big oval that looks like an poached egg.

Deary me… I forgot. It’s not called Skydome anymore. Its the R*#@ers Centre or something equally dreary. I don’t understand why, when corporations purchase or support something, they feel the need to rename the object. Sorry, but it’s still the Skydome to me and always will be. Can’t stand the company and I am loath to call it by the new name. I choke each time I try to pronounce it.

Try finding the R*#@ers Centre from the train station (Union is the central spot where trains, buses, urban transit all meet)… No luck if you are using the “name that will not be spoken”. All the paths are still labeled Skydome. Hee, hee….It was renamed in 2005 and the city still hasn’t changed the signs. Maybe the powers that be know in a few years the R*#@ers Centre will undergo a change of ownership and be renamed, again.

I think we should run a contest for the new name: How about the Corporate Greed Centre? The My Ego is Bigger than Your Ego Centre? Or my favourite: Look We Can Spend the Money we Gouged From You?

Yes, Catpaw is crabby today. I’ll be on a tear most of the afternoon so you have been warned.
