Holy Sh@t, I made some money yesterday

August 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Ah money, the love of which is the root of all evil. I sure could use more of that kind of loving! As promised, I am updating you on the various design elements I’ve put onto the blog. My experiments in money making have been humourous to say the least. Now I know I’ve not been blogging very long and the results are never good at first. This all started when a customer asked me whether all the “You can make $” promises were true, I decided to explore the issue.

Some are serious scams. I’m making a list of them - just on the basis of how much info they want from you. I mean really, do you need to keep my credit card on file when I’m selling your stuff??? Shouldn’t I need your credit card? As my info grows, I’ll post specifics later, right now I’m still gathering data.

One of the tools I am using is the Google Ad referral system. It has a good reputation and they don’t ask you to give them your pets and or children in order to be honoured with their ads. It is very simple to set up and easy to monitor. After 2 months I had racked up an impressive .0 cents. Oh I have been excited about that. I look at my stats every morning over coffee and then go “oh poo, I’m still poor”.

Well this past week has been a banner week in the old Catpaw household. I made some money. Want to know how much? It was an impressive .73 cents. Yes indeed folks - Catpaw is going to retire this week. I’ll bet you are as thrilled as I am.

The money came from two sources - 2 straight clicks on Google ads and once impressive use from the Google Search at the top right hand column. It breaks down to .11 cents for the ad clicks and .62 cents for the Google Search. Now the Google Search was used 9 times in the past month but yesterday was the first time someone used it to find a product and click through to their page. This is based on 492 people clicking on my site in a 7 day period.

I don’t have a huge readership so this means my profits are going to be negligible. It will take a lot of work on my part to see any realistic results from this type of advertising. Naturally the larger the readership base, the larger the chances are that someone will click onto an ad. Otherwise this turns into a game of patience. The average blogger won’t get rich off of Ad Sense but they just might make enough in a year to buy themselves a tiny little treat at the end of the year. Let’s say you make .50 cents a week x 52 weeks = $26 in a year. There is a string attached - Ad Sense will send you your money after you make $50.00. Guess I should amend that previous claim to say after 2 years you will have enough to have a nice little bonus. The upside to this is, if you are a diligent poster and have a growing readership base that is willing to click on ads, your potential for profits will increase modestly.

Alas, unless I really work at bringing in the customers I better not give up my day job. No cat treats for this kitty to day.

Stumble it!
