True to my promise, I’m keeping you up-to-date with my advertising adventures. Tried one ad company on the weekend and well… pulled the plug pretty quickly.
Adbrite is a reputable company. No doubts about that. But … they just were not appropriate for my site. Talk about aimless clutter! I signed up for the links program and last night around midnight I took a look at the page and suddenly there were underlined links in the body of my posts. That alone annoys me but I wanted to see what the result would be if I signed up for the program. Well.. let me tell you, the links were comical and bloody annoying. Wave your mouse over the post and pop, pop, pop came ad balloons - for some reason all for gambling sites.
What makes this so funny is I don’t like gambling. I don’t care if anyone else does it, but I personally find it boring. Been to Las Vegas and spent my roll of dimes and that was it. I can think of 100’s of things to do with my money other than put it in someone else’s pocket with nothing to show for it. Plus - its boring - I know I said that already.
The gambling links themselves I could have ignored but they linked to the damnedest words. One link was to the word “love’ - okay, okay - love/gambling - that one will pass but it is stretching things. But live? look? comments? Not a single link was relevant to gambling.
I know it was early in the program, but that was just silly. It looked like I had placed ad links wily nilly through post just to suck up money. Quite frankly my page looked like a reject from a bargain shop. All my deliberately placed wily nilly ads are stuck along the sides of the blog!
I’m sure Adbrite is appropriate for some pages, but definitely no mine. This reaffirmed in my mind my thoughts about ads found in the body of a post. I like to read the rant/blog posting without having to wade through a whack of silly ads. I don’t mind them on the sidebars, but the inline clutter nearly drove me spare last night.
So scratch one ad campaign before it even got off the ground.
Stumble it!
