Something to keep you happy

I’m off hunting down the elusive laptop deal for a customer today. Yes, I get paid to have fun. So I’ll leave you with this lovely sketch I did last month.

He’s rather a smashing pilated woodpecker. I managed to get his bill just right. It took about 2 or 3 tries -the angle that kept messing me up. The bill curves lightly on the top and if you don’t get it correct, then you end up with a cartoonish look. I used a kneadable eraser to spot erase certain sections to get a white/light feather effect. It worked very well here. I have begun to investigate different techniques that will show more detail in the feather or fur (depending upon what I’m drawing).
The Toronto Film Festival starts tomorrow and I’m going to a few films. Dunno what they are yet but I’ll let you know tomorrow (or Saturday). Can’t wait. Ah… TIFF time, that means summer is truly over and fall is here. Hark! Do I hear melancholy lurking in the wings?
